A infomercial came on tv one night and it was about cleaning a shower head. Something about lime build up and their product is guaranteed to remove it. It seemed to work.
Although, truth be told, it’s kinda hard to advertise a product that doesn’t work. Infomercial aside, I realized I’ve never cleaned my shower head. I mean in my mind it cleans me, so I just assume it’s clean. Now, I’m also not the first owner of my home, and I never put a new shower head in the shower, so who knows how dirty it actually is. I know I don’t.
I like to clean things in an eco-friendly way. It’s inexpensive and does the job, in my opinion, better than using chemicals I’d spend top dollar on. It works for me. I figured just for the fun of it, I’ll look up if anyone has a cool way to clean a shower head. Actually, I’m not the first person to do this. There is a ton of information on how to do this. I took note of what seems to be the most common fix, and wrote it below. This was so easy. Take that late night infomercial! Ha!
You just need a few items. Chances are you already have them. I already did. This also might be why this was my favorite solution. I didn’t have to go to the store.
- Distilled White Vinegar - This stuff works for many green cleaning ways. Good to have around.
- A Plastic Bag - One that is big enough to fit over the shower head and has no holes in it.
- A Twistie Tie
- A Spray Bottle - I bought a couple of these once for about a dollar each.
- A Toothbrush
- A Cloth
Directions:
- Push the shower head down as far as it will go.
- Wrap the bag around it.
- Hold the bag in place and pour the vinegar into the bag until the shower head is submerged.
- Use the twistie tie to secure the bag in place.
- Now, just wait 15 minutes.
- Then remove the bag.
- Use the toothbrush to scrub the head. Get it into all the holes.
- Once done, just dry it with the cloth.
That’s it! It’s so easy. You can actually have it done before the infomercial is even over. Give it a try. You’ll see! Leave the tough cleaning to the professionals and schedule a deep cleaning in DC.
I have never cleaned my shower head before. I would say It is over due. Thanks for the info.
